About Kai
I am a trans, non-binary, neurodivergent person and my pronouns are they/them/theirs. My people are Welsh, Scottish, and Scandinavian. I reside in Katarokwi (Kingston), Ontario. This is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee people. This territory is included in the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Confederacy of the Ojibwe and Allied Nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
Below you will find a list of recognized trainings that help me feel confident in doing this work. That being said, I continue to realize that my ability to support you comes primarily out of my own healing path.
I spent many of my teen years in a state of depression, addiction, and suicidality. Working with psychedelic medicine and a mystical experience at the age of 19, ignited in me a desire to understand the human psyche and heal myself.
Over the following decade plus, I dug deep. Working with a somatic therapist, I learned about my attachment trauma and the way those wounds were filtering my current reality. I began to map the complexity of my own system and got to know the inner tensions that existed inside of me. The paradoxes and parts of myself that couldn’t agree with one another. I learned to love my internal binds because when I sat in presence and acceptance of them, the next right step on my path became obvious. This is work that is far from over and brings great meaning to my life - exploring the inner worlds and retrieving the disowned parts of myself.
I explored various modalities and began to train as a therapist myself. This training cultivated a loving community, and certainly taught me a lot. Some of my greatest teachers are Ram Dass, Audre Lorde, Bayo Akomolafe, brontë velez, Gabor Mate, Pinar and So Sinopoulos-Lloyd of Queer Nature, and Carl Jung. Although I will continue to pursue teachings, I am careful not to cling to seeking and gathering knowledge. Being in presence, being in Self - will always be the most profound tool that I can offer you.
I have completed the following trainings:
Existential-Integrative Psychotherapy Diploma - The Living Institute - 2018
Somatic Experiencing - Peter Levine - Ongoing
Internal Family Systems - Various classes - Ongoing
